Joseph Wayne Nelson, age 49, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, September 20, 2024, in Chattanooga, Tennessee after a brief illness.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy King Nolan of Maryville, TN, and his father, David Wayne Nelson of Colorado Springs, CO.
He is survived by his Aunt Beckie (Larry) Saffles and his Aunt Jenny (Rick) Swafford as well as many loving cousins.
Joe was a kind, gentle, quiet soul who loved camping, animals, music, collecting CD's and playing his drums. He grew up in Colorado and often spoke of its beauty and how it always drew him back. He would tell of his small school in Creede bundling all the kids into a single bus and spending the day skiing in the mountains.He graduated from Bearden High School, then attended the University of Tennessee. The family expresses their appreciation to those who cared for Joe in his last days including all the MICU staff at Parkridge Medical Center, and especially to his friends, Gail and Wendell Floyd.
