Joyce Wagand, age 83, of Pikeville, TN, was gently taken into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 24, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Joyce was born on January 26, 1941, in Austin, MN to Bernard and Signe Nordeng Wagand. She graduated from Austin High School, where she mastered the clarinet and oboe, even performing in the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and attended Austin Jr. College, Jacksonville, FL University, FSU and the FBI Academy. She joined Jacksonville Police Department in 1967 and served in Jacksonville Sheriff's Office after consolidation in 1968 as a detective for over 25 years. She was the last surviving Old City of Jacksonville policewoman. She was a member of LSBC. She retired in 1993. She enjoyed working with stained glass. Some of her pieces are displayed in places of worship in Jacksonville and Macclenny, FL. In 2017, she moved to Bledsoe County, TN, sharing her home with her daughter with whom she had an unbreakable bond of love, and her loving son-in-law, 5 dogs, 2 horses, a pig and several chickens. Her poodle, Savannah, was her little sweetheart. She often said that this was the very best time of her life. She was the absolute greatest mom and loved both her children and son-in-law fiercely. They love her beyond measure. She also loved and will be dearly missed by her brother, Buzz and her cherished partners and lifelong friends, Margaret Hyde White and Nick Haley, along with many other special friends she met along the way. She is so much more than the words on this page. She is an ever-present love and strength that remains with us. She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister-in-law, Sharon. She is survived by her son, Baird (Barry) McDaniel; daughter, Leanne R. McDaniel (James) Zattiero; and brother, Ronald (Buzz) Wagand. No services are planned at this time. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements are by Putnam-Reed Funeral Home, 1171 Main Street, Pikeville, TN.
