Please share a memory of Alma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alma Stewart James, (b. March 26, 1932, d. February 7, 2024) a lifelong resident of the Brayton Community, Bledsoe County, died peacefully surrounded by family at Laurelbrook Nursing Home on the evening of February 7th. She was the twin sister of the deceased, Wilma (Odes) Skiles. Alma was of the Baptist faith. Alma and her husband, Clinton James, (d. Jan. 24, 2017), who both grew up in the Brayton Mountain Community, loved the mountain so much that as a newly married couple, they saved to buy the property on Wishbone Road where they raised their family. They taught Janet (Gary Collier), Stephen (Diane Durham) James, and Beverly (Anthony) Gervolino that in the hot summers you could feel the cool change in temperature when you got to the foot of the mountain, that there was no water that tasted better than the freestone water from their well, and that no place was more beautiful than the acreage they were blessed to call home. Their grandchildren, Abigail Hankins (Matthew Williams), Maureen Collier (Allen Phillips), Valerie (Brian) Malone, Rebekah James, Jessica (Lee) Shelton, Aaron (Melissa McLellan) Gervolino, Megan (Ryan) Stephenson, David (Brooklyn Holland) Gervolino, roamed in the woods, learned the responsibility of caring for healthy animals, and learned to do chores under the direction of Gran. Alma was also delighted to be the great Gran of Kiernan Phillips, Morgan Williams, Yvonne Williams, Eli Malone, Ava Malone, Ethan Malone, Kensley Shelton, Kaylee Shelton and Ivy Gervolino. Alma's career as a nurse spanned over fifty years. She began nursing as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Dunlap, TN, and concluded her career as a Nurse Practitioner with Ocoee Regional Health Corporation-Bledsoe County Primary Health Care in Pikeville, TN. Being a nurse was Alma's calling. She loved caring for her patients and had great respect for the people who came to her for care. She would not just listen to them recount their symptoms but could see and hear and value their lives. The family is holding private graveside services. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements are by Putnam-Reed Funeral Home, 1171 Main Street, Pikeville, TN. No visitation.
