Bill Cross, age 79, of Dunlap, TN, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Story Point Assisted Living. He served in the Navy Seabees. Bill served as choir director at several churches. He was the pastor at Stephens Chapel United Methodist Church, Welch Chapel United Methodist Church, most recently at Mt. Airy Baptist Church and served in the Prison Ministry. Bill was also a musician that played the Trombone and was in several bands in Chattanooga. He was also a skilled carpenter. He was preceded in death by his son, Billy Franklin Cross Jr; step-son, John Morris.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Cross; two daughters, Sherry (David) Owens, Chattanooga and Mindy (Stephen) Haywood, Harrison; step-daughter, Dyan Caldwell, Pikeville; step-son, Robert Morris, Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Lucy, Clyde, Iris Haywood; sister, Freida Stutz, Chattanooga; one niece and one nephew.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13 at 10:00 AM CST in the funeral home chapel with Earl Eames officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens South. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements by Standefer-Reed Funeral Home, 50 May Road, Dunlap, TN. Family will receive Wednesday 8:00-10:00 AM CST.
