John Leslie “JL” Kirby, age 76, of Spencer, TN, died Friday, June 23, 2023.
He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed golfing and mowing and loved word search puzzles. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren. He retired from Tansi after 51 years as a landscaper.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Kirby; parents, Paul Kirby and Carrie and Leftric Sapp; sister, Lena Sapp; brothers, Cordell, Willie and Greer Kirby; and step-son, Billy Dodson.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Anna Mae Kirby of Spencer, TN; children, John (Dawn) Kirby of Spencer, TN and Tina Asberry of Spencer; step-children, Sandy (Melvin) Mayfield of Spencer, TN, Jo Ann (Darryl) Hensley of Quebeck, TN and Roxie (Charles) Watson of Spencer, TN; grandchildren, Michael (Jayme) Thomas, Jennifer (Nick) Thomas, Nathan (Kelley) Heady; seven step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Marie Kirby Sapp and Janie Sapp Newby, both of Pikeville, TN; brothers, Junior (Gene) Kirby of Crossville, TN, Johnny Sapp of Pikeville, TN and Tony (Vivian) Sapp of Dayton, TN; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Wayne Sullivan officiating. Burial will be in Bolin Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements are by Putnam-Reed Funeral Home, 1171 Main Street, Pikeville, TN. Visitation will be held Monday, June 26, 2023 from 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. CDT and Tuesday, June 27, 2023 from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. CDT.
