You know how you instantly like some people when you first meet them? That’s exactly how my husband, Charles, and I felt when we met Carl. He was a down-to-earth, good guy, with a great personality. The Lord gifted Carl with mechanical instincts that allowed him to repair most anything he put his hand to. He has been my go-to appliance guy for over 20 years. Even when he was no longer able to physically repair something, he helped me find another repairman. Just a few weeks ago, he guided Charles and me in how to make a minor repair on our dryer ourselves. He ALWAYS took the time to help people. He was a man who loved his family and was so proud of his grandkids. When our son married Jennifer, Carl and Louise loved Paul just like one of their own children. I’ve told Paul more than once that when it comes to in-laws, he hit the lottery. Carl loved life and enjoyed God’s creation. He and Charles spent many happy hours together fishing. One of our best vacations was when our combined families spent a week at Panama City Beach. The ladies went to the beach while the guys fished for our supper. The large supply of fish they caught was prepared for us at a local restaurant. We have many happy memories of times spent with the Smiths. Dear family, we are so sorry that you’re having to say “goodbye” to such a loving husband, dad, and poppaw, but what a blessing that you were allowed to share his life on this earth and to know that we have the blessed hope of meeting him again where “God shall wipe away all tears from [our] eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” We love you.
