Alan Lee Tompkins, age 82, of Pikeville, TN, died Thursday, November 3, 2022.
Alan served in the Army Reserves as a medic during the Berlin Crisis. He was very proud of his service and the oath that he took. While living in Connoquenessing, he owned and operated A.L. Tompkins Mfg. Co. and moved it to West Liberty, PA for approximately 30 years.
After moving to NC, he sold auto parts to auto repair shops. He then took classes in silver smithing and stone setting, designing and selling beautiful jewelry. He also made and sold wood turnings, black smithing, and also made and sold violins, banjos, and other string instruments.
He loved camping, meeting new friends and riding his motorcycle. He was always willing to help his neighbor, friends and family.
He was a member of the Scottish Rites of New Castle, PA, Grove City Lodge No. 603 F & AM of Pennsylvania, the Mahoning New Castle Lodge No. 243, a member of the NRA and a member of the American Legion. He was a loving, talented man that will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Tompkins; and brothers, John Tompkins, Jr., Robert Lynn Tompkins and Coy Mayfield.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marcia Tompkins of Pikeville, TN; sisters, Sherry (Chuck) Caputo of Pittsburg, PA, Alecia (Jack) Matotek of Pittsburg, PA, Laurie Shaffer of NC, Rebecca Layden of AR, Elizabeth Krenzynski of IL and Amy LeDesma of AR; brothers, Fredrick Dean Tompkins of Butler, PA, Michael (Judy) Mayfield of AR and Randy (Rebecca) Mayfield of AR; and several nieces and nephews.
