Obituary of Terry Mitchell Floyd

Terry Mitchell Floyd, 59 years old life long resident of Whitwell Mountain, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022 at his home with his family. Terry was born to John and Janie Floyd on July 29, 1963. He grew up as a middle child- his older sister, Lisa Ossowski and younger brother Scotty Floyd. In junior high school he met his future wife Linda Faye Layne. They were married on April 11, 1981. After high school he started his lifetime career in construction. Terry loved his work; he loved building and fixing things. “If Terry couldn’t fix it, it wasn’t fixable!” Terry and Linda raised two daughters, Felicia and Terri Lynn. Terry was very well known and loved in his community. He spent most of his career with Stein Construction, but had been with T.U. Parks Construction as a Superintendent for the past six years. He loved his job. He was very well known and respected in his field. A colleague recently said “He was a gentleman, a wise man, and was admired for his knowledge and work ethic.” Terry enjoyed spending his time with his family, especially his two granddaughters, Brynlee and Finley; they were the light of his life. Terry and Linda were married for 41 wonderful years. In that time, they worked hard, accomplished so much, and built a beautiful life together. Terry is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, James and Viola Worley; paternal grandparents, John Floyd Sr., Claude and Josie Robertson. Terry is survived by wife, Linda Layne Floyd; children, Felicia (Brandon) Lane and Terri Lynn (Heath) Cookston; granddaughters, Brynlee Lane and Finley Cookston; parents, John and Janie Floyd; siblings, Lisa (Tom) Ossowski and Scotty (Shasta) Floyd; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday August 11, 2022 at 2pm CST in the funeral home chapel with Bro. John Potts officiating. Burial will follow at Burkett Chapel Cemetery.
