Farrel Smith, age 94, of Pikeville, TN died peacefully at home Saturday, March 20, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was a member of the Mt. Crest Church of God of Prophecy and served the Lord faithfully. He was a member of the Republican party and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. (Air Force) during WWII. He played baseball in the State Farm Class B. Semi Pro in Cleveland, Ohio. He enjoyed playing golf, was an avid rook player and loved bluegrass music and hunting. He loved his family, especially his little buzzards. He was a self-taught man and loved farming.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life of 72 years, Ethelene Smith; granddaughter, Amber Goforth; daughter-in-law, Kay Smith; parents, Will and Sarah Warner Smith; sisters, Oma Lee Farmer, Lora Belle Stonecipher, Elizabeth Pendergrass, Verna Franklin, Jerry Sue Godbout and Shirley Smith; brothers, Edward Lee “Jack” Smith, Beecher Smith, Verlon “Early” Smith, Paul Smith, Ivan Smith, Billy Smith, Hoyt Smith and James Smith.
He is survived by his children, Debbie (Paul) Goforth, Layton Smith, Cathy (Steve) Standefer and Clayton (Laura) Smith; grandchildren, Anthony (Jamie) Goforth, Alyson (Tom) Angel, Steven (Debbi) Standefer, Sarah Grace (Zachary) Olendorf, Silas Standefer, Emilee Smith, Zac, Starr, Shane and Tasee Goforth and Morgan Smith; great-grandchildren, Melissa and Blake Angel, Lacie McBay, Tabitha (Armend) Cardin, Ryan (Haley) Goforth, Dustin (Lacey) Minton, Zac Minton, Wes (Jacqueline) Minton and Dalton Stockwell, Raney and Mary Cate Goforth, Tristan and August Standefer and Les Paul Olendorf; great-great grandchildren, Jason (Kellee) Songer, Seth and Meleah Songer, Noah Angel and Laken and Mylee Minton, Sadie, William and Brettlyn Cardin, Easton and Elliot Goforth and Jace Minton; great-great-great grandson, Jackson Songer; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Smith of Brooklyn, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with Bro. Kenneth Norris and Bro. Doyle Ashburn. Burial will be in Will Smith Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements are by Putnam-Reed Funeral Home, 1171 Main Street, Pikeville, TN. Visitation will be Sunday from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. CDT, Monday from 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. CDT and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. CDT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gideons or Mt. Crest Church of God of Prophecy in his honor.
