Jerry D. Dempsey, age 78, of Whitwell, TN, died Wednesday, September 23, 2020. He was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church. He was a member of Whitwell Lodge #563 F&AM, a member of the Alhambra Shrine and the Chattanooga Valley Scottish Rite, as well as a member of Cherokee Chapter #301 Order of the Eastern Star. Jerry served on the Marion County Election Commission and the Marion County Planning Commission. He also served in the U.S. Air National Guard. He is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Jessie White Dempsey; sisters, Corrine Dempsey, Aline “Runt” Pickett and Imogene Durham; and brother, Bob Dempsey. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ruby Dempsey; daughter, Amanda (Gary) Turney; grandson, Seth Turney; brothers, James Ray (Pat) Dempsey and Bill Dempsey, all of Whitwell; and sister-in-law, Billie Dempsey of Soddy Daisy. Services will be held Saturday, September 26, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. CDT in the parking lot of Sardis United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Daniel and Rev. Eugene Kilgore officiating. Burial will be at Sardis Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reed Funeral Home, 11675 Hwy 28, Whitwell, TN 37397. Visitation will be held Friday. September 25, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. CDT at the funeral home.
