Obituary of Joyce E Cox
Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On June 30th, angels came to take Joyce Earlene Young Cox , 93, on a journey to Heaven where loved ones were waiting to celebrate her arrival. They will be surprised to hear that Joyce had a long list of accomplishments. At 16, Joyce married 19-year-old Billy Murlen Cox, a newly draftee into the US Army. Together they raised 5 children, built and ran several dairy bars and a BBQ carry out, and traveled throughout the US. During that time, Joyce completed her GED, took courses at Chattanooga State, and at 75, took Cosmetology and passed the state exam the first try. In her 80’s, Joyce discovered a new hobby and hidden talent, painting with acrylics. To her delight, Joyce was offered $250 for her 1st painting, one of many. Of course, she couldn’t part with her masterpiece. Joyce is survived by her 5 children, Mary Jan Hoover, Glen Cox (wife, Sandra McCurry), Claire Wyllie (Eddie Layne), Linda Holloway (Henry Allen), and Heather Nancy Cox. She had 7 grandchildren (Richard Dean Grooms, Billy Glen Cox, Johnny Cox, Jeana Wyllie Beason, and Cody, Corey, and Colton Holloway), 21 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren, and 2 more on the way. Joyce is also survived by two of her brothers: James Harold Young and John Franklin Young, Jr. She is reunited now with her other 5 siblings in Heaven.
Funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Sunday, July 5th, at Reed’s Funeral Home in Whitwell, TN, with visitation beginning at 3:00. Masks and distancing will be required.
