Alford C. Hitchcox, age 87, of Pikeville, TN went home to be with the Lord Sunday, February 23, 2020. He passed away peacefully surrounded by family. As a member of Brockdell Church of God, he participated in the music ministry for many years playing a variety of instruments. Alford served his country honorably as Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army for 23 years. He retired from TVA. He lived a full life with many adventures.
He enjoyed aviation and was a private pilot. He enjoyed playing music, traveling, and was a collector of railroad memorabilia. In the 60’s, he and his brothers formed a singing gospel group called the “Hymntimers”.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Devota L. Hitchcox; son, Teddy Allen Hitchcox; father, Oscar Hitchcox; mother, Gladys Hitchcox; sisters, Effie Lawson, Wilma L. Jarrell and Fay Dodson; and brothers, Darries Hitchcox, Bud Hitchcox and Dewey Hitchcox.
He is survived by his daughters, Shiron (Richard) Harris of Dayton, TN and Karen (Steve) Flynn of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Chris Harris, Katrina Collier, Shannendora Flynn and Candice Flynn; great-grandchildren, Samuel Collier, Christian Collier, Liberty Collier, Shavon Flynn, Luke Flynn and Bradley Harris; special nieces, Vickie Dodson, Yvonne Cornell and June Middleton
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. CST in the funeral home chapel with Bro. David Rogers and Bro. Donny Cox officiating. Burial will be in Cagle Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements are by Putnam-Reed Funeral Home, 1171 Main Street, Pikeville, TN. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 25 from 4:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. CST and Wednesday, February 26 from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Special thanks to Amedysis Hospice of Kimball and Dr. Scott Dibrell for all their loving care.
