Agnes “Matt” Scissom, a life-long member of the Griffith Creek community, died Thursday, September 6 at her home at age 90. 

            In classrooms at Pine Hill School, Hicks Chapel School, Crossroads Elementary, and Griffith Creek Elementary, she taught for the Marion County school system for 37 years.  She was a member of the Whitwell Church of Christ.

            Ms. Agnes was preceded in death by husband Lonnie, parents Albert and Maude Griffith, sons Steven and Michael, sisters Oma Griffith, Olus Scissom and Avis Worley, and brothers Elbert and Arnold Griffith. 

            Survivors include daughter Deb Hooper and husband Gary, daughter-in-law Sandra Scissom, grandchildren Stephanie Danby and husband Brett, Derek Hooper, Dr. Micah Krempasky and husband Michael, Tommy Scissom, Heather McGrew and husband Keith, and great-grandchildren Alan Danby, Noah Danby, Ricky Scissom, Aggie Krempasky, Lillian Krempasky, Auston Blair, and Kennedy Blair.

            Family will receive friends Saturday, September 8 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm CST at Reed Funeral Home, Whitwell, TN.  Funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 9 at 2:00 pm CST in the funeral home chapel.  Interment will be at the Griffith Creek Cemetery.  Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com.
