Mr. James Earl McEntyre, 102, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Those left to cherish his memories are: his children Linda Stephen (Ron), Charles McEntyre (Ruthie), Elaine Seymour (Jerry), Patsy Fredericksen (Lynn, deceased), and Eleanor Campbell (Frank); nephew Larry Kilgore (Tricia); grandchildren Elaine Stephen, Gail Laochinda (Daniel), Allison McEntyre Gaharan (John), Michael Seymour (Jamie Whittaker), Brett Seymour (Ashley), Erica Scaramuzza (Franco), Emily Neely (Stefan), Jason Campbell (Ashley), and Lisa Campbell (Miguel Roman); eleven great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law Alfred and Raymond Nye, and a host of cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years Edith Nye McEntyre, his parents L.B. and Otsie McEntyre, his sister Josephine Kilgore and his brother-in-law Clint Kilgore.
James graduated as valedictorian from Whitwell High School in 1933 and received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology from Milligan College in 1938. He was a hero of WWII serving in Gen. George Patton’s Third Army, 6th Armored Division in Europe. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1945. He worked as a dedicated rural letter carrier for the US Postal Service for almost 30 years. James was a faithful member of Looney's Creek United Methodist Church for most of his life and served as treasurer for many years. He was a founding member of the Crossroads Ruritan Club and was active serving his community until shortly before his death. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to work in his garden.
A private burial is planned for August 12th at Red Hill Cemetery. A celebration of James's life will be held at Looney's Creek United Methodist Church at 10:00 am, CDT on Saturday, August 19th, 2017, with Rev. Brenda Woods presiding. There will be fellowship with family and friends afterwards.
