Jo Ann Houston Poston passed away peacefully at home on January 16th, 2015. She was lovingly surrounded by her 5 children, oldest grandson, and husband. Jo Ann was born September 8, 1933 in Coshocton, Ohio. Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Ed Houston of Spring City, Tn and mother and father-in-law, Jane and BB (Buck) Poston of Whitwell, Tn. Jo Ann was of the Methodist faith having joined the Methodist church in Spring City, Tn in her early teens. She is a member of Looney"s Creek United Methodist Church having been a member since 1965. She is survived by her husband of 62+ years, James Poston; daughters: Vicki (Steve) Blackburn, Jasper, Tn, Michelle Ann Long, Chattanooga, Mary Jane Harper, Whitwell; sons: James M (Sharon) Poston, Chattanooga, John Andrew (Vernetta) Poston, Whitwell. Granddaughters, Ashley, Jennifer, Katie, Jodi, Elizabeth, Amanda, and Alexis. Grandsons, Jonathan, Michael, Robert, Jason and Seth. Also several great-grandchildren; sister, Jean (Bill) Hinds, Spring City; sister-in-law, Patty Jobe, Knoxville; nieces, Lisa Jobe-Brillhart, Sandra Hinds, Leslie Hinds Metcalfe; nephews, David Hinds, Rodney Hinds, John Hinds and Carey Jobe. Jo Ann was a graduate of Spring City, TN high school class of 1951 as Salutatorian of her class. She actively participated in all sports at the school, including basketball, cheerleading and softball. Following graduation she enrolled in the School of Business at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She married and became a full time and devoted Mother to her five children. She later was employed with the Marion County School System where she had many surrogate children. She retired in the late 1990s. Funeral services will be held Saturday 1:00 p.m. CST At Looney's Creek United Methodist Church. A brief graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m. CST at the Spring City Cemetery, Spring City, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Looney's Creek United Methodist Church. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com.
