Gleyds Ellen London Burton, age 91, of Pikeville, died Thursday, October 2, 2014. Born July 12, 1923, she was raised in the Cold Springs community. She loved the Lord, her family, gardening, cats, and coconut cake. Mrs. Burton was a member of the First Southern Baptist Chuch of Pikeville, where she taught Sunday School for more than 30 years.
Mrs. Gledys was preceded in death by husband, Richard S. Burton; parents, Wesley and Adelia Fann London; sister, Lura Belle Bales; brothers, Clarence, John, and Arnold London.
She is survived by two sons, Gary (Ruth) Burton, Pikeville; Stan (Susan) Burton, Ooltewah; two granddaughters, Bethany (Stacy) Merriman, Pikeville; Jenna Burton, Harrogate; two great-granddaughters, Bree and Pearl Merriman, Pikeville; one brother, Greer (Ann) London, Pikeville; three sisters, Laura Lou (Willard) Miller, Pikeville; Edith Hinds, Crossville; Ina Jean (Edgar) Gifford, Pikeville; special friends, Bob and Irene Foster, Pikeville; eleven nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Services will be Sunday at 2 pm CDT at First Southern Baptist Church with Bro. Doyle Ashburn, Bro. Bill Wolfe, and Bro. Albert Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Iron Hill Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements by Putnam-Reed Funeral Home, Hwy 127 South, Pikeville, TN. Visitation will be Saturday 3-9 pm CDT at the church.
