Obituary of Sylvia Mae Smith
Please share a memory of Sylvia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sylvia Mae Evans Smith went to be with our Lord and her husband of 66 years, Percy C. Smith, on April 4th, 2014 while sleeping peacefully at home with her family present and caring for her.
Sylvia was born May 23, 1919 in Richmond, VA. Sylvia and Percy married on March 25, 1948. They relocated to Aiken, SC and eventually to Chattanooga and then to Soddy-Daisy, TN for the last 44 years. Together they raised four boys with a love, devotion and dedication not seen in today’s world.
Kirk & Beth, Glenn & Kay, Dean & Joan, Gary & Trina along with their grandchildren, Clay, Kristen, Angela, Alan, Aaron, Alden, Chad, Ryan, Lauren, Jessica, Adam and Hannah as well as their great grandchildren and Sylvia’s sister Phyllis celebrate her life and the blessing it was to be part of her life.
Sylvia spent the early years of marriage raising her sons. She started her career out of the house only after the youngest of the four boys had started school. Her family was the focus of her being. She was a beautiful Christian through her life example.
The family will celebrate her life along with Percy’s later in the spring with a memorial service and dedication of a “Life” swing at the Flibeta Club Pavilion in Soddy-Daisy where they lived the last 44 years.
The entire family gives so many thanks for having Liz Graham Allen come into our lives and for all she has done for this family. The care, support, prayers, nursing knowledge and love for Mom & Dad these last 2 years will forever be a comfort to us all. We could not have made this time such a comfort to our parents without her.
The family request that expressions of sympathy be made as donations to the Hospice of Chattanooga who also provided wonderful service and care to both Percy and Sylvia.
