G. W. "Kitty" Pickett, 98, of Whitwell,passed away Sunday, December 22, 2013 in Grandv iew Medical Center, in the presence of family. G. W. retired from the Chattanooga-Hamilton County School System, where he was employed as a janitor, after twenty years of service.
He was preceded in death by parents George and Lorna Fulton Pickett; wife Florendia Tatum Pickett; life partner Edith Green; daughter Ella Louise Pickett; son James Edward Pickett, Sr.; grandson Willard L. Webb; great-granddaugahter Laneisa Pickett; brothers James R. B. Pickett, Harold Franklin "Preacher" Pickett, Billy G. "Tunk" Pickett; sisters Ammie Lee Beene, Mildred Pickett, Jessie Tuomey, and Wilma Ware.
Survivors include devoted son William Oscar (Jacqueline) Pickett, Jasper; Kenneth Lebron Pickett, Chattanooga; daughters Thelma Irene Pickett Carter, Chattanooga; Anna Love Owens, Charlotte Ann Pickett, and Janie Richardson, Pontiac, MI; sixteen grandchildren twenty-six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sisters Shirley Ann Mitchell, Richard City; Hazel Solomon and Helen Ford, Chattanooga; brother-in-law Leon (La Verta) Tatum, Ooltewah; warmhearted cousin Mable Reid, Victoria; and a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Service will be Tuesday at 1:00 pm CST in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Miles Bivens officiating. Burial will follow in McWilliams Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements by Reed Funeral Home, Hwy 28, Whitwell, TN. Visitation two hours prior to service.
