Chaffin, Dortha (Dot), 85, passed peacefully away Monday, March 3, 2008 and has now joined the love of her life, Bud, in Heaven. Dot is survived by her daughters, Pamelia (Pat) McCarthy and Melinda (Richard) Hartline, grandsons, Bryan and Michael Brandow and her faithful companion, Albert. Dot was born in Dunlap, TN, attended college at Bowling Green Univ, and was a Navy Wave from 1943-1946 working for the Bureau of Naval Personnel at the Pentagon. Dot and Bud were married in 1951 in Chattanooga where she was employed at Nolan&Co. In 1957, the Chaffin’s moved to Tampa where they became Charter Members of the First Baptist Church of Temple Terrace. Dot was active in the PTA at TT Elem, Greco, and King, a Girl Scout Leader, Quail Hollow Country Club member and a 40+ yr member of the TT Woman’s Club. Dot was employed at Maas Bros. in her early Tampa years and then as secretary to the comptroller at Busch Gardens where she retired after 20 years of service. Never one to slow down, she volunteered for The Literacy Program at Lewis Elem and even joined up with Ringling Bros. Circus while it winter quartered in Tampa. The Chaffin’s were devoted University of Florida Orange & Blue Boosters and enjoyed the Gator football games for over 50 years. Even though she was born a TN Volunteer, Dot lived the life of a Rabid Florida Fightin’ Gator. Her daughters, Pam and Melinda would like to thank Dr. Elizabeth Warner, Life Path Hospice Blue Team, Dr. Steven Chang, West Allis Memorial Hospital, and her many friends for their care and compassion. Services will be Monday, March 10, 2008 at 12 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. arrangements are by Putnam-Standefer-Reed Funeral Home, 50 May Road, Dunlap.
