James Parker Grove, of Dunlap, TN, died six days after his 86th Birthday on November 15, 2012, in his sleep at home. He was a faithful husband and care-giver of his wife of 54 years, the late Elsie Holmes Grove. Formerly of Mascot, TN, he volunteered at age 17 for WWII and served in the Navy Air Corp. Mr. Grove was a 4H and Agricultural agent for the Ag Extension Service in Washington and Grainger counties (returned to Mascot for 7 years to manage a 1,000 acre dairy farm) and then in Farm Management in Sequatchie
County totaling more than 30 years. He was a farmer who loved the land. A member of Chapel Hill UMC for more than 40 years, he often taught Sunday School. His parents Dave B. and Maybelle Grove and brother, Dr. David A. Grove preceded his death.
He was a good Daddy and is survived by two daughters, Melinda (D.K.) Clark, Lansing, KS and Melissa (Gary) Knox, Hillsboro, TN; four grandchildren, Doug (Lisi) Clark of Oak Ridge, TN, Laura (Michael) McAnly of Hillsboro, TN, Darren Clark of Pensacola, FL and Alan Knox of Nashville, TN; four great grandchildren, Daniel, Joshua, James and Megan Clark of Oak Ridge; two sisters, Betty Grove of Kingston, TN and Becky Gray of Waikiki, HI; several nieces, nephews and special friends, Curtis & Pam Burnett and Jack & Norma Johnson of Center Point Community.
Funeral services will be held Sunday 2:00 p.m. CST at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Tom Tucker officiating. Burial will be in the Chapel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Standefer-Reed Funeral Home, 50 May Road, Dunlap. Family will receive friends Saturday 3:00-9:00 p.m. CST. Mr. Grove will lie in state from 1:30 until funeral time Sunday at the church.
