Rua Lavelle Thurman Barker, age 84, of Dunlap, TN died peacefully Saturday night January 12, 2008. She was born July 7, 1923, in Bruno, AK. She moved to Dunlap when she married Bud Barker October 29, 1950. She was a faithful member of the Welch Chapel United Methodist Church for 57 years. She was active in the Home Demonstration Club and a member of the Women's Board of the Sequatchie County Farm Bureau for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years James L. "Bud" Barker; parents Raulin and Edith Martin Thurman; brother John Gladden Thurman. She is survived by her son Gene (Sharon) Barker, Dunlap; two granddaughters, Carrie (Steven) Wald, Nashville and Lavelle Barker, Dunlap; two great-grandsons, Kyle and Dakoda Shell, Dunlap; brother Arthur (Donna) Thurman, St. Joe, AK; sister-in-law Demoy Thurman; aunt Delpha Martin, Harrison, AK; brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Welch Chapel Cemetery Fund or the Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 11:00 a.m. CST in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Cross and Rev. Kevin Benoit officiating. Burial will be in the Welch Chapel Cemetery.
