Mack Ewin Steele, Sr. Passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga. He was born April 2, 1930 at Silver Point, Tennessee in Putnam County. He graduated from TPI now Tennessee Technological University with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1954, was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in August of 1954. After serving in the Army he joined the Tennessee National Guard where he attained the rank of Captain. He was Assistant County Agent in Morgan County, Tennessee, then in 1964 moved to Dunlap, Tennessee and served as County Agricultural Agent of Sequatchie County until 1985. He was a teacher in the Sequatchie County Schools and served one year as interim principal of Sequatchie County Middle School. Mack was a member of First Baptist Church for 48 years and served as a Deacon. He was a Past Master of New Hope Lodge #583 F&A.M. and a member of Dunlap Lodge #693 F&A.M. He was a member of New Hope Chapter #340 Order of Eastern Star where he served as Worthy Patron for 29 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Steele; brother, William Henry Steele, and sisters; Ollie Davidson, Corda Palmer, and Avora Irene Steele. Survivors include his wife, Grace Smith Steele; sons, Mack E. Steele, Jr. and Jeremy (Carol) Steele, and daughter, Mary (Dan) Lovely; grandchildren, Morgan Steele, Pvt. Clay E. Steele, Carter and Cayla Allen, Nicholas and Benjamin Lovely; sister, Orgie Steele; sister-in-law, Virginia Steele; brothers-in-law, Wallace Smith and Harold (Becky) Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be Sunday, June 10, at 2:00pm CST in the chapel with Rev. Jeremy Byrd and Dr. Fred Steelman officiating. Burial will be in the Sequatchie County Memorial Gardens.
