Obituary of Ana Grace Lewis
Please share a memory of Ana to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ana Grace McCloud Lewis passed away on Thursday November 4, 2021, at the age of 89. “Button”, as those she loved called her, was born on May 14, 1932, to the late Charles and Lucretia Tucker McCloud of Bledsoe County, Tennessee.
After graduating from Bledsoe County High School, she went to Washington D.C. and in 1952, Ana Grace met and married Donald P. Lewis. To this union were born three children, Donald Preston Lewis, Jr., James Taylor Lewis, and Elizabeth LuAnn Lewis. They moved frequently due to her husband’s military career in the Air Force before retiring to her hometown Pikeville where she lived for 48 years.
Ana Grace was a member of Wesley Chapel all her life, where she played the piano for the choir, served on the cemetery committee, and was the church treasurer for many years. She volunteered for the Bledsoe County Red Cross, drove Meals on Wheels in Pikeville, and was active in the Senior Citizen Center for many years.
Having grown up on a farm, she learned to do almost everything it took to fix, grow, clean, and decorate anything at all by herself. She was a self-sufficient woman who enjoyed quilting, crocheting, gardening, and canning. While her family was stationed at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico in the early 1970s, she rode a motorcycle and played banjo.
After 48 years of marriage, Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by her dearly beloved husband, Don. Ana Grace had one brother and three sisters: Madge Cagle of Detroit, Michigan, Jimmie “Jimbo” Malloy of Detroit, Michigan, Charles “Red” McCloud, Jr. of Dayton, Tennessee, and Josephine Oreto of Pikeville. All have preceded her in death.
Ana Grace is survived by sons Donald P. Lewis, Jr. of Presidio, Texas, James Taylor Lewis of Minneapolis, Minnesota and daughter Elizabeth Lewis of Harriman, Tennessee. During her long life she helped, listened to, and cared about several nephews, nieces, and friends whom she loved dearly.
