Obituary of Marie A Myers

Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Marie Akin-Myers, age 84, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Valley View Assisted Living in Whitwell, Tn.  She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by “the love of her life” of 46 years, Willard Loyd Myers, Sr.; daughter, Norma Myers Hale-Green; grandson Herbert L Hale, Jr.; parents, Henry and Kitty Swafford-Akin; and 10 siblings.

Marie loved her family and friends and never met a stranger. She worked for many years in sewing and car manufacturing factories. She retired in 1997 to care for her beloved husband. After his death, she needed something to fill the void and went to work at the Bledsoe County Courthouse. She loved the interaction with the people who worked there and those stopping by. Even though she never explained why she quit, it was obvious to her family and friends that her memory was failing.

In the spring of 2014, her neurologist suggested she move to town before winter. In August, she moved from Cold Springs to Birchwood Village in Pikeville. The family's “saving grace” at Birchwood was Miss Rhea Britt. She kept a close eye on her and loved her like a mother. In the spring of 2016 her doctor told the family she could no longer live alone. In June of 2016, James and Debbie drove to Tennessee and moved her to Oregon to live with them. After 8 months and a very long winter, she moved into a memory care facility in Redmond, Oregon. All she ever wanted to do was go back to Pikeville, Tennessee. After a nasty fall in August of 2017, Debbie promised her when she was able to travel, she would fly her home. On November 2nd Debbie brought her home to Tennessee with the hope of her living in her beloved Pikeville. God has a way of closing doors when He knows that's not what's best. Debbie stayed for 7 weeks and was preparing to fly her back to Oregon when God opened the door at Valley View. Her 7 month stay there wasn't easy for the staff but they loved and cared for her as if she was family.

She is survived by son, Willard Loyd (Susie) Myers, Jr., Pikeville; daughters, Carolyn (Mitchell) Oakes, Pikeville, and Deborah (James) Aikens, Oregon; grandsons, Jeffery Hale, Illinois, Hunter Oakes, Casey Oakes and Kamin Myers, Pikeville and Matthew Dailey, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Herbert L. Hale, III, Illinois,  Amanda Hale, Missouri, Tyler Hale, unknown, Emily, Kyle, Ethan, Eli, and Callie Oakes, Pikeville, and Taylor Dailey, Oregon; several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
