Obituary of Anna Jean Warden
Jean S. “Anna Jean” Warden, age 87, died peacefully Thursday, June 7, at Brookdale Mount Vernon in Cleveland, TN.
Anna Jean was born on September 5, 1930 in Pikeville, TN. After attending business school, she worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conversation Service (ASCS), serving as the Executive Director before her retirement after 37 years of service. She was very active at her church, Pikeville United Methodist, where she was a member for over 60 years, serving in several leadership positions. She was also very active at Bledsoe County Senior Citizen Center where she volunteered as tour director, organizing dozens of excursions for the group.
Anna Jean was an accomplished pianist who still played, entertaining others by playing songs from memory until shortly before her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, James Thomas Warden; brother, Earl Burton (Soupy) Swafford; and parents, AJ (Jack) and Margurete McReynolds Swafford.
Anna Jean is survived by her children Jack (Joanie) Warden of Midland, Georgia, Jim (Susan) Warden of Pikeville, TN and Judy (Jeff) Warden Fields of Gallatin, TN; seven grandchildren; Henry (Paige), Benton (Hannah Gail), Hannah-Jean (Taylor), Kelly (Shane), Taylor, James (Chelsea) and Anna (Niko); and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Eva Kate and Emma James.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 10, at 2:00 p.m. CDT at Pikeville United Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Smart officiating. Burial will be in Pikeville Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Anna Jean's life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna Jean's memory may be made to Pikeville United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 233, Pikeville, TN 37367. Visitation will be Saturday, June 9, from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. CDT at the funeral home.
