Elizabeth Ann Morgan, age 85 of Signal Mountain, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010. She was born January 3, 1925 to the late Ethel Ambrosia Boatman Boyette and Harvey Cletus Boyette. Elizabeth graduated from high school in Middleton, TN and from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a BA degree in English. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. While in Middleton she taught English for one year and then moved to Memphis where she worked as an executive secretary at radio station WHBQ. While in Memphis she met the love of her life, Rufus S. Morgan, on a blind date while he was a student at the medical school. They married and moved to Pikeville where they lived until 1979. Dr. Morgan began working the Emergency room at Memorial Hospital in Chattanooga and he and Elizabeth moved to Signal Mountain. An omnivorous reader with an astonishing memory, she possesssed an expansive spirit marked by generosity, tolerance and a love of beauty. She gardened, sewed her daughters' clothing, played the piano, and enjoyed making curtains, lampshades, needlepoint, knitting, and quilts. She refinished furniture and built beautiful doll houses for her granddaughters. Elizabeth had a love for antiques and her daughters have precious memories of exploring antique shops with their mother. Despite her disabilities, she kept her boundless optimism and radiant smile into her later years. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Rufus Samuel Morgan, M. D., Signal Mountain; daughters Julia Morgan (Ken) Scott, Chattanooga; Constance Morgan (David) Haun, Kingston Springs; grandchildren Stephanie Wilhoit (Douglas) Ferguson, Kenai, Ak; Andrew Morgan (Jingping Xu) Haun, Phd, Boston, MA.; Margaret Morgan (Michael) Allen, Madison, AL.; and Alexander Morgan Scott,Chattanooga; great grandchildren Julian Matthew Ferguson, Ian Michael Ferguson, and Phoebe Elizabeth Ferguson. A memorial service is planned for Sunday, February 21 at 2:00pm CST in the funeral home chapel with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm CST. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com.
