Ira Branum, Jr, age 88, of Dunlap, TN died Saturday October 3, 2009 following cancer surgery in Chattanooga, TN.
Ira graduated from Central High School, Chattanooga in 1938 and the University of Chattanooga in 1942, with a degree in chemistry. He worked for Riley Tire Company in Indianapolis, IN until he was inducted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a research chemist. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a chemist for the Chattanooga Medicine Company. He was a resident of Bledsoe County, for 61 years as a farmer. He was an outdoor enthusiast, enjoying hiking and photographing natural wildflowers.
Preceded in death by his father, Ira A. Branum; mother, Mattie W. Branum and sister, Inez (Frank) Beavert.
He is survived by nephews: Ralph (Jill) Smith, Tupelo, MS and Ira David (Margaret) Smith of Nashville; Nieces: Marilyn Hollihan and Robin (Dan) Albaugh both of Memphis; 4 great nephews; 4 great nieces; 1 great-great nephew and 5 great-great nieces.

Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home on Saturday October 10, 2009 from 11:00-1:00 with Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m. CDT. Immediate cremation was Ira's wish. The family requests no flowers; in lieu of flowers please make a contribution to the American Cancer Society.
