Shirley Swafford Wendland, age 75, of Bledsoe Co., Tn, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, November 18, 2016. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was born March 22, 1941 in Lick Holler, Bledsoe County, Tn, delivered by her grandmother, Ova France Swafford.
Shirley worked at Ralston Purina Co. in Battle Creek, Mi after her graduation. Returning to Tennessee, she graduated business school in Chattanooga. She attended Bryan College, taking all the Bible courses offered. Shirley retired from TVA as a machinist. She loved to paint, visit museums and antiques.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos C. Swafford and Nonive Felts Swafford; and sister, Reva (Mack) Swafford.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Manfred Wendland of Crossville, Tn; granddaughter, Chelsea Hilton; sisters, Velma (Riley) Frady of Pikeville, Diane Cranfill of Pikeville, Evelyn Swafford of Dayton; and brother, Michael K. Swafford of Pikeville; special caregivers and nieces, Tina Jakoby of Knoxville and Tonya Roberson of Pikeville. She wanted them to be her voice when she was not able to speak for herself.
Services will be Saturday, November 18, at 2:00 p.m. CST in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Summer City Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements by Putnam-Reed Funeral Home, Hwy 127 South, Pikeville, TN. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
