Luther Gene Childress, age 72, of Dunlap, TN, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at his home. He was a member of College Grove church of Christ and served in The Vietnam War. Gene loved church, hunting, his CB radio and absolutely loved his four grandchildren more than anything. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Edward and Minnie Ann Childress; brothers, James Joseph, Marshall "Monk", and Clyde Childress; sisters, Joyce Smith and Agnas Beavers; son, Steven Childress.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha Lou Smith Childress; daughter, Tracy Childress Smith; grandsons, Jake (Katie) Childress, Garrett Camp and Levi Camp; granddaughter, Raven Smith; daughter-in-law, Angela Childress; brother, Johnny Childress; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday 1:00 p.m. CST in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Collier Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements by Standefer-Reed Funeral Home, 50 May Road, Dunlap. Family will receive friends Thursday 11:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. CST.
