Imogene "Jean" Dempsey Layne Durham, 91, of Whitwell, TN, died peacefully at her home Monday, October 19, 2015.
She was the wife of the late Seth Layne, Art Sheridan, and Leonard Durham. She was a member of the Whitwell First Baptist Church. She will be remembered by the members as a smile and I love you more. She was a coal miners daughter of the late Hubert (Jessie) Dempsey. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Corareen Dempsey and Ailene "Runt" Pickett and brother, Bobby Dempsey.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Carolyn Layne (Danny) King; brothers, Bill Dempsey, James Ray (Pat) Dempsey, and Jerry (Ruby) Dempsey, all of Whitwell; sister-in-law, Billie Dempsey of Soddy Daisy; grandchildren, Angela (Clint) Odom of Rock Island, TN, Daniel (Tina) King and Heather (Rick) Watkins of Sparta, TN; five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jerry Massey and Rev. Herschel Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the Whitwell Memorial Cemetery.
