Leon Minton, passed away surrounded by his loving family on the evening of February 21, 2009 at the Erlanger Medical Center after a stroke. He received his Bachelor of Science in agriculture from the University of Tennessee and taught high school in Northern Indiana for several years. He then continued his education at the Illinois Institute of Technology receiving his masters in Engineering Economics in 1961. He then worked for Combustion Engineering as an industrial engineer in East Chicago, Indiana and Chattanooga, TN until his retirement in 1994. He also taught classes at Chattanooga State and University of Tennessee Chattanooga. His hobbies were hunting, gardening, farming and yard work. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dexter S. and Addie Hixson Minton; brother Ray H. Minton. Survivors include his wife, Frances Dean Minton daughter Chanda (Raymond) Blevins, Pikeville; son Wayland L. Minton, Signal Mountain; granddaughter Kristy Minton; grandsons Aaron (Hope) Minton and Owen Blevins; great-grandson Elijah Blevins; sister, Rachel (Earl) Waters, Rossville, GA; his cats Cissy and Smokey Jane. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In leiu of flowers the family request contributions be made to Hospice of Chattanooga, 4411 Oakwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37416. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com Funeral services will be held Wednesday 1:00 p.m. CST in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Brian Kearns officiating. Burial will be in the Pope Cemetery. Arrangements are by Putnam-Standefer-Reed Funeral Home, 50 May Road, Dunlap. The family will receive friends from 2-9 p.m. CST Tuesday.
