Vola Wesley Mansfield, Jr., passed away at his home on Sunday, 26 December 2010, having lived for more than 88 years. Mr Mansfield embraced the Catholic faith in his last year of life. He was received into the Roman Catholic Church, and Last Rites were given, five days before his passing. Formerly, he was a lifelong member of Dunlap United Methodist Church and of Dunlap Lodge, no. 693, F.&A.M. Mr Mansfield served in World War II as an officer in the Army Air Corps, being assigned to the South Pacific theatre. An avid hunter, he was a game warden for a short time. He was the last Mansfield to operate the Mansfield Mill. He retired from the Postal Service after many years as the carrier for Route 1, Dunlap. He was widely known and respected. Mr Mansfield was predeceased by his father Vola Wesley Mansfield, Sr., former Dunlap postmaster; mother Okie Wagner Mansfield, sister Lois Mansfield Singleton, and sons Mark Alan Mansfield and Jon Hinton Mansfield. He is survived by his former wife Tommye Louise Hinton Mansfield, son Vola Wesley Joseph Mansfield, III, grandson John Vola Wesley Mansfield, IV, and great-grandsons Jonathan Mansfield and Jacob Mansfield. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, Dunlap, on Thursday, 30 December, at 1:00 pm. All relatives and friends are urged to attend. A reception, also at the church, will follow the service. Burial of ashes will take place at Chapel Hill Cemetery at a later time and will be private.
