Thomas E. (Tommy) Thompson, age 84, of Victoria, TN, passed peacefully away at his home with family at his side on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
He attended Whitwell High School and Kirkman Vocational School. He was a member of Sardis United Methodist Church for 43 years and served actively as a trustee. Tommy began his work life as a paper boy for the Whitwell community at age 10. As a young teenager, he enjoyed stock car racing. At age 20, he began his trucking/coal career, Thompson Trucking Company located in Stevenson, AL. He later joined Tennessee Consolidated Coal Company from which he retired. Then, his love of trucking led him to be the owner/operator contracting with Suttles Hazardous Waste Management until he officially retired at age 79. He served 37 years as Marion County Commissioner and was Land Fill Chairman for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Elvie Billingsley Thompson; sister, Mary Ruth Layne; and infant brother, Wayne Jackson Thompson.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Peggy Willis Thompson; children, Trudie and John Patterson and Chady Thompson; granddaughter, Meghan (Daniel) Oakley; great-grandchildren, Vivian and Thompson Oakley; great-nephew, Wyatt Skiles; sister, Dorathy Jean (JC) Layne; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Sunday, May 16, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. CDT in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Cecil Baxter and Rev. Bryan Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Sardis Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com. Arrangements are by Reed Funeral Home, 11675 Hwy 28, Whitwell, TN. Visitation will be Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. CDT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sardis Cemetery Fund or Carolyn Stewart Library in Jasper, TN.
Pallbearers will be Bob Willis, Don Willis, Tim Layne, Chuck Billingsley, Mark Payne, Shane Moss and Hal Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be the Marion County Commissioners.
