Evelyn H. Miller, age 90, passed away suddenly on September 16th, 2011. Born in Powell's Crossroads, TN she graduated from Whitwell High School in 1939, and attended school in Murphreesboro. She enjoyed teaching for several years and deeply cared for her students. She and Jim lived at McGhee Tyson Airforce Base in Maryville for ten years, where he served as Lt. Colonel & Chief Navigator, before retiring to Whitwell.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, James (Jim) S. Miller, daughter Donna Lynn Holtcamp, and grandson Daniel Lynn Holtcamp, parents John K. & Cora M. Hudson, and brother John K. Hudson, Jr.
She is survived by her sister, Betty J. Kiger of Madisonville, TN; niece Cissy Smith & husband Jerry, great niece Meg Smith, all of Knoxville; nephews James K. Kiger Sr. of Madisonville, Eugene C. Kiger III & wife June of Inglis, Florida; son-in-law Vernon Holtcamp & wife Darlene of Powell's Crossroads; grandson Coby Holtcamp & wife Brandy, great-grandson Braxton, all of Ringgold, GA; great nephews Christopher Kiger, James K. Kiger Jr. & wife Jami, great-great nephew Conner, all of Knoxville. Special thanks to those that provided much help and support during her recent illness. Loved greatly by family and friends, for her sweet and giving nature, she will be missed by us all.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 18th, at Reed's Funeral Home in Whitwell, TN from 4:00-6:00 pm CST, with service to follow in the Chapel at the 6:00 pm CST. The service will be officiated by Rev. Cecil Baxter. Graveside ceremony at Teague Cemetery on Monday at 12:00 pm CST. For any who prefer to make donations in lieu of flowers, we would request those be sent to Looney's Creek Methodist Church in Powell's Crossroads.
