N. J. Farmer, age 90 of Crossville, went to see his Savior on Monday, August 29, 2011. He was born to the late Floyd Farmer and America Farmer- Knight on June 2, 1921 in Pikeville. Jay lived in Pikeville until entering the U. S. Army Air Force in September 1942. He served in the Tenth Air Force during WWII in the China Burma India Theater and received the following decorations and citations: one Service Stripe, four Overseas Service Bars, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, and WWII Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. During this time of service he met the love of his live, Joyce Joie Garnett and they married May 31, 1947. They returned to Pikeville in 1974 after Jay retired from General Motors in Pontiac, Michigan. In February 2000, they moved to Crossville to be closer to their grandchildren. They attended First Baptist Church of Pikeville and Central Baptist Church of Crossville. Others preceding him in death were step-father Johnny Knight; son Larry J. Farmer; sisters Mary Lou Brown, Ruby Yeargan, Lunnie Eubanks, and Billie Sue Foster. Jay will forever be remembered by his loving wife of sixty-four years, Joyce Famer; daughters Tina Lee (John) Swafford and Gina (Mike) Lane; grandchildren Tawnya (Todd) Godwin, Rachel, Jarrod,and Kaitlyn Lee; one great-grandson Brodie Bauer Godwin; several nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones. Service will be Wednesday at 3:00pm CDT in the funeral home chapel with burial in Worthington Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.reedfamilyfh.com.
